Our History

THE DOWNSHIRE LODGE No. 594.

On the 1st day of July, in the year 1851, the fifteenth year of the reign of her Most Gracious Majesty, Queen Victoria, a Warrant was issued by the United Grand Lodge of England according sanction to the formation of a new Lodge, to be named ” THE DOWNSHIRE LODGE ” and to bear the number 864 in the register.

On the 17th day of August. in the same year, the ceremony of consecration was performed by W. Bro. H. Hartley, Lodge No. 245, in the Masonic Arms, 158 Great Howard Street, Liverpool, and on that day W. Bro. Wm. Berry was installed as the first Master of the Lodge.

In the minutes of that first meeting and upon the Warrant of the Lodge appear the name of the founder members:—

Such, my brothers, is the documented history of the formation or our Lodge, these are the bare facts recorded of its inaugural meeting. We have no Register available for the period prior to 1869.
